There is still quite a bit left until it becomes clear which of the new crews will get a great opportunity – a fully paid season of this year’s Latvian Cup mini rally.

For the first round of the project, by filming a short TikTok video and introducing themselves, 44 future mini rally crews – pilots and co-drivers, young people aged 18-23, with a category B driver’s license and no previous experience in motor sports – applied.

According to the jury’s assessment, 20 crews went to the second round of selection. In order to get to know each of the crews, to find out their motivation for starting the mini-rally, as well as to assess the knowledge and interest of young people in the world of motor sports (especially rally), the participants were invited to a meeting with the project jury in the cozy premises of “Kalnciema Ezītis miglā”.

From the Budget Racing jury – idea authors Kristaps Skuja and Dinārs Pilmanis, rally pilots Emīls Blums and Kārlis Nebars, co-drivers Māris Kulšs and Harijs Vējiņš, rally “Cēsis” organizer Māris Millers, Jānis Kapiņš (Goldingen Auto), Artis Jēkabsons (Jekabsons Garage), Dace Janova (4rati.lv), discussing and voting, decided that 10 crews will be sent to the next selection round.

Kristaps Skuja reveals that the “No Budget Racing final will take place on May 1st at track 333, where young people will be given various tasks about and around motorsport. In the end, we will find out the crew that will get the unique opportunity to drive a full mini rally season for free.”

Dinars Pilmanis adds: “It was a pleasure to see in person all the participants who came to the second round of selection, as well as their serious attitude and accuracy, because the participants had to come to us for an interview at a specific time set for them, similar to how it is in a mini-rally, going to an administrative or technical commission.”

Dinars does not hide that it was not easy to choose the TOP 10 from all the participants of the selection, however, he believes that the jury successfully coped with its task and that the crews that most accurately describe the idea of the project will participate in the final – they are young people with an interest in motor sports, without previous experience and without your own budget for participation in a mini-rally.
