Wolf died at the weekend at the age of 60 after a long illness.

From 1987 to 1994, Wilks worked in state institutions and non-governmental organizations, and from 1995 to 2010 he worked at the now “SEB bank”, including from 2007 to 2009 he was the bank’s chief economist.

From 2005 to 2010, he was the head of the Economic and Monetary Committee of the Financial Industry Association (formerly the Latvian Commercial Banks Association), and from 2007 to 2008, he was a member of the Macroeconomic Situation Stabilization Group of the Latvian Government.

Vilks was elected to the 10th and 11th Saeima from the list of the union “Vienotība”, and from 2010 to 2014 he was the Minister of Finance, as well as Latvia’s trustee in the World Bank, the European Investment Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Northern Investment Bank and in the Bank of the Council of Europe. In 2008 and 2009, Vilks was a freelance economic and financial adviser to Prime Minister Ivars Godmanis, and in 2009 and 2010 to Prime Minister Valdas Dombrovskis, as well as an economic adviser to the Association of Large Cities of Latvia.

In February-October 2020, Vilks was the senior official of the European Investment Bank’s regional representative office in Vilnius in institutional matters, and in 2016-2020 in 2017 – executive director and member of the Board of Directors of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London, representing the European Investment Bank as a shareholder, as well as in 2017-2019. in 2016 he was the deputy head of the Audit Committee, and in 2016 he was the senior advisor of the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg and in 2013 and 2014 he was the deputy chairman of the board of trustees of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, representing Latvia.

On October 1, 2020, the Saeima appointed Vilka as a member of the Board of the Bank of Latvia for a five-year term, which began on November 16, 2020.

He is a Knight of the Order of the Land Cross of the Estonian Mara.

Vilks was born on June 15, 1963.
