Latvijas Radio recorded the first audio fairy tales 60 years ago, and now they will be available to listeners in an even more convenient format. On the road, in free time or before going to sleep – the Latvian Radio fairy tale app will be the ally of the youngest listeners in various everyday moments.

“Latvijas Radio’s digital audience data clearly shows that children’s content, including fairy tales, is in great demand among users. Analysis of data on streaming content on third-party platforms shows that audio content created for children is at the top of the charts. For example, on the streaming platform “Spotify ” the most consumed content of Latvijas Radio is “Good night – fairy tales,” says Ieva Aile, member of the Board of Directors of Latvijas Radio in matters of program and service development.

Audio fairy tales enrich the language of young listeners, develop imagination and creativity, and allow them to take a break from visual stimuli, which is especially important in today’s digital age. Fairy tales develop children’s thinking and the ability to express emotions, as well as create a safe environment where they can learn to better understand the world around them and moral principles.

“There is a very large part of truth and life wisdom in fairy tales, and I am convinced that children understand fairy tales better than adults. Children’s emotions are true and real. Fairy tales, by their very nature, also have a therapeutic character – they go through different stages in order to reach a happy ending. Fairy tales have a lasting value – there is a magic to be believed in them, even if they are only fairy tales. That is why it is not surprising that children still listen to them. This year, the fairy tale “Good night – fairy tales” on Latvian Radio celebrates its 60th birthday. says Māra Eglīte, head of Latvian Radio “Radioteātris”.

She also recommends listening to fairy tales with children and explaining and discussing what they have heard: “Fairy tales are a bridge between childhood and adulthood, which basically accompanies the whole life.”

The fairy tales app of Latvian Radio is adapted in such a way that it is easy to use and safe even for the smallest ones. Fairy tales can be searched by author, title, narrator or category. You can also mark your favorite fairy tales with a heart so that it is convenient to listen to them repeatedly.

The app contains both folktales of different nations and original tales of Latvian and non-Latvian authors, covering the widest range of topics – from animals and various mystical and mythical characters to the adventures of princesses and kings. Also, the fairy tales about miracles, which will unleash the ability to believe in the impossible in the youngest listeners, have not been forgotten.

“For listeners to love and find more and more fairy tales, they are grouped into categories that allow you to understand what to expect: fairy tales about miracles, animals, heroes, gnomes, also ghost stories, fairy tales about tricksters and tricksters, as well as fairy tales and stories that correspond to the seasons From the treasure chest we also selected fairy tales and stories by well-known authors: fairy tales by Imanta Ziedoņš, Margarita Staraste and Kārļis Skalbe, “Winnie the Pooh”, the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales,” says Justīne Savitska, chief editor of Latvian Radio Multimedia content.

In the “Latvijas Radio pasakas” application, more than 400 fairy tales are available, which are especially suitable for children aged 2 to 8 years. The range of fairy tales is planned to be supplemented by offering more and more works by modern authors.

Fairy tales have been narrated by people from a wide variety of professions – starting with the radio voices of Latvian Radio, including Sandra Glāzupa, Gunārs Jākobsons, Arita Grīnberga and Maestro Raimonds Pauls himself, and ending with actors, musicians and athletes known in Latvia. Artūrs Skrastiņš, Zane and Vilis Vādņiņi, Harijs Spanovskis, Rūdolfs Plēpis, Kaspars Znotiņš, Vera Singajevska, Indra Burkovska, Santa Didžus, Vaira Vīke-Freiberga, Martins Dukurs, Artūrs Irbe, Kaspars Daugavins, Artūrs Šilovs, Rihards Bukarts, Harijs Vītoliņš are only some of the personalities who will address the audience.
