On Friday, the young Latvians took a big step towards entering the quarter-final stage, being able to defeat Slovakia’s young aspirants with 5:3. Markus Sieradzki, who scored the first goal of the game and assisted his teammates on the second and third goals, stood out with three points. Antons Macijevskis became the author of the winning goal, who realized the numerical majority at the end of the second third.
Mikus Vecvanags saved 31 of the 34 shots made by the Slovaks in the goal of the Latvian youth national team. In the opening game of the tournament, Nils Mauriņš achieved exactly the same statistics against the hockey players of the Finnish national team.
Tonight the Latvians will face the toughest test in the group tournament – they will face the always fast and technical USA hockey players. So far, they have thoroughly beaten their opponents, throwing nine pucks in the Slovakian goal and defeating the Norwegians with 8:2.
The leaders of the USA national team are currently also at the top of the tournament’s top scorers. Seven points were scored by James Hagens, who stood out with three accurate shots and four assists. On the other hand, Kol Aizerman scored five goals and assisted his colleagues once.
