On the Jelgava highway, a truck driver is arrested while under the influence of three per million alcohol – BauskasDzive.lv

On April 24 of this year, the State Police received information from a resident about a suspicious truck driver who, while possibly in a state of intoxication, was traveling on the A8 highway (Riga – Jelgava). After checking the received information, the law enforcement officers immediately took action and stopped the mentioned vehicle. The driver was tested for alcohol concentration, which showed a blood alcohol level of 3.16. A criminal proceeding has been initiated for this violation, State Police representative Rūta Strautniece informed the portal.

She said that on Wednesday, April 24, shortly before 10 o’clock, a resident who was traveling along the A8 highway from Riga to Jelgava noticed a truck coupled with a trailer, the driver of which was driving the vehicle very unconvincingly, endangering not only himself, but also others on the road traffic participants. The eyewitness contacted the State Police, informing them about the suspicious vehicle, as well as the direction in which it was going, confirming the information provided with video material that proved the unconvincing driving of the vehicle.

Officials of the reaction department of the South Zemgale station of the State Police Zemgale regional administration took immediate action and, taking into account the current route of the truck, understood the future direction in which the driver would go, as well as the nearest possible place to stop the vehicle in order to ascertain the situation.

At 10:04 a.m., the police stopped a truck in Jelgava, driving along the Loka highway in the direction from Riga towards Aviācijas iela. The driver of the vehicle was tested for alcohol concentration, and it was found that he was intoxicated at 3.16 parts per million.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated for this violation according to Article 262, first paragraph 1 of the Criminal Law¹ paragraph on driving a vehicle, if the concentration of alcohol in the blood found in the exhaled air or blood test exceeds 1.5 per thousand. Such a violation is punishable by deprivation of liberty for a period of up to one year, or by temporary deprivation of liberty, or by probation supervision, or by community service, or by a fine, revocation of the right to drive a vehicle for five years.

The State Police expresses its gratitude to the resident who informed about the suspicious truck, thereby protecting both himself and other people. The State Police calls on car drivers not to be reckless and to remember that violating traffic rules endangers the safety of not only the driver himself, but also other road users.
