Daugavpils does not remove an inscription praising the aggressor country in the club / Article

--

17 days have passed since an inscription praising the aggressor country was scratched on the wall of the club. The owner of the club reported it on social media, causing widespread interest, and also contacted the police. However, the inscription, which can also be treated as a public glorification of a war crime, is still visible.

“We left him for inspection for the time being. We are currently thinking about how to design it better, maybe leave “glory” and write Ukraine, or something like that,” said Andrejs Faibušević, owner of the “Artillery Cellars” club.

The owner of the club denies that this is self-promotion for his institution, but invites residents to see this inscription in person, which is said to be proof of its existence. After the extensive publications, aggressive actions have not taken place in the Daugavpils club.

“We wouldn’t want this deceptive peace to lull us to sleep. My personal opinion is that the solution is only direct state administration, knowing well who is in power,” said Faibušević.

The owner of the club states that he has done research on social networks and concluded that the possible culprit lives permanently in Great Britain. Meanwhile, at the beginning of April, the police arrested a man who caused a fight in the same club and shouted slogans glorifying war crimes, for which criminal proceedings have been initiated.

“For public glorification of genocide, crime against humanity, crime against peace or war crime, as well as according to the second part of Article 231 of the Criminal Law – for hooliganism, if it is related to causing bodily harm to the victim,” informs Ilga Teivāne, assistant head of the Latgale region of the State Police – Trainovska.

However, the police do not connect this episode with the creation of an inscription praising the aggressor state on the outer wall, admitting that the author of the scratch is still being sought. “Currently, an administrative violation process has been initiated for the use of symbols glorifying military aggression and war crimes in a public place. An investigation is underway and the circumstances of the incident are being explained,” says Teivāne-Treinovska.

The club has decided that the culprit or culprits will be asked for compensation in the amount of several thousand – for damaging the reputation, additional work for the staff and material losses.
