Taking care of safety on the roads of Daugavpils, in the near future, traffic monitoring devices will start operating in test mode at two intersections with a large traffic flow. This decision was taken at the council meeting on April 25.
In the near future, the equipment will be installed at the intersections of 18 november-Valkas iela and 18 november-Varšavas iela. These intersections were chosen taking into account the high traffic intensity, as well as the number of dangerous maneuvers performed here.
Igor Aleksejev, the chairman of the city economy and development committee, says: “High-definition cameras installed here will capture, for example, running red lights and other violations. CSDD will process the obtained data and send it to the responsible services for evaluation. A similar experience is in Riga and Liepāja, where after the installation of cameras at dangerous intersections, the number of violations decreased several times. This is an important step in ensuring safety and order on the city’s roads. Let’s make our roads safer together! Follow the traffic rules and be careful on the road!“
The testing regime will last 6 months, after which experts will evaluate the usefulness of such equipment. During this time, the collected data will be used for informational purposes, no penalties will be issued for the violations recorded during the testing regime.
