When asked how a woman in politics in Latvia feels, Siliņa says: “As in all positions, there are the same challenges here as for men. Here, I think, there is no difference, only women have a lot of other side issues that maybe no one thinks about on a daily basis. ”
The Prime Minister states that she often receives a question – does she also have her own stylist. “I don’t have a stylist or a hairdresser in the morning, because the time when the working day starts is very early. No one will come to me at six or five in the morning to do my hair. That’s the reality, and it definitely requires more discipline from a woman – get up earlier, get ready, get dressed, figure out what outfit to wear.
I understand that men change their ties, but we change our outfits,” reveals Siliņa.
She continues: “I think it’s a good time for women leaders to be in politics right now, because right now it is perceived very positively in different, well, world perspectives. In Europe, we are four leaders out of 27 leaders.” To the joke of Jānis Šipkēvics, the host of the program, that potential leaders, when they approach the closet, turn on “nothing to wear” in the morning, Siliņa says: “No, it’s not like that. Every night you have to figure out what to wear in the morning. Of course, the discipline must be great, there can’t be any hang-ups.”
