Despite the warm winter, the heating season has been longer and consumption has increased during the season – Events

The real estate management and administration company CIVINITY MĀJAS is starting the closing of the heating season from next week, and by collecting seasonal data, it concludes that this year, despite the warm winter, heating consumption increased by 5%. The first houses were disconnected from heating this year much later than last year. Also, the heating season started earlier than in the previous season.

AS Civinity Mājas, as the largest private real estate management and administration company in Riga and Jurmala, reports that the heating season of 2023/2024 was 18% cheaper than the previous season. The heating tariff in Riga this season was 22% lower than in the previous heating season, but it should be taken into account that in the previous heating season the residents also had state support for the rapid rise in energy prices.

Despite the fact that this year’s winter was reportedly one of the warmest in Latvia’s history, residents spent more on heating than the year before.

“Inhabitants are used to the current heating prices and have spent more this season, accordingly choosing a more comfortable temperature in their homes. However, we have kept the settings of the heating economy mode introduced in the previous season in the common areas, and they will probably remain so in the future as well,” explains Nora Birkena, manager of AS Civinity House.

This year, the heating season has also turned out to be longer, as the daily average air temperature dropped sharply in April. Last year, the first houses were disconnected from heating already at the beginning of April. The heating will be closed gradually, following the expressed wishes of the residents to stop the heating supply, or in accordance with warmer weather.
