On Saturday, May 4, 2024, the Day of Restoration of Independence of the Republic of Latvia is celebrated. In honor of this day, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., interested parties are invited to the courtyard of the Life and Crafts farm on Vecpilsētas street 2, where a themed celebration will take place.

As part of the holiday, visitors will be welcomed at the family table in the courtyard of the craft farm, where the caring hostesses of SIA “Austras raksti” will treat them with warming soup prepared in the mantle chimney. The courtyard of the craft farm will be filled with musical performances by the collective of the Jelgava Seniors Association – the vocal ensemble “Zziedātprieks”, the line dance group “Saulgriezes” and the dance group “Mītavas roze”. Patriotic Latvian songs will be played, which will not be unfamiliar to the event’s visitors, so everyone is invited to join and sing them together.

SINCE

Participation in the event is free of charge, but we invite guests to come with baskets of treats to complement the common festive table. Visitors are invited to come in folk costume or with some Latvian costume element to create a special festive mood together.

By purchasing an entrance ticket, those interested will have the opportunity to visit the weavers’ workshop of the Life and Crafts Farm, get to know the weaver’s craft and see the ancient Viļumsons loom, which is a great rarity nowadays, as it is more than 100 years old. Pēteris Viļumsons (1872 – 1939) from Zemgali was a prominent craftsman, weaver and designer. At the beginning of the 20th century, he was the first to invent and patent his variant of the single-pam semi-automatic loom. Entrance fee to the weavers’ workshop for adults 5 euros, pupils, students, pensioners 2 euros, family ticket 10 euros.

During the event, photo/video recording will be done for the purposes of event publicity and public information, creating and reflecting the work process, the use of funds and ensuring the continuity of information for future generations and the development of culture and the preservation of cultural heritage. Additional information on the processing of personal data in the municipality of the city of Jelgava, including a list of data subject rights, is available on the website: https://www.jelgava.lv/pasvaldiba-par-pasvaldibu-datu-aizsardziba/.
