According to the member of the Riga City Council, the waiting time depends on the situation – whether the client wants to stay in a particular care home, as well as on the state of health and needs. “To ease this line, we also have contract organizations outside Riga, there is an opportunity to be elsewhere. Of course, the person also needs some care. For example, a person has severe dementia, then it creates a queue. There is an additional burden on us also because many of our neighboring municipalities have refused to co-finance this service, therefore many declare in Riga,” says J. Radzevičs, noting that this is the reason why Riga is aging, because the capital pays for social care services and residents of other municipalities also try to use it.
The chairman of the social issues committee calls for a discussion on the meaning and essence of declaring the place of residence, as it is often used as a tool for accessing social or educational services.
