According to the company, during the renovation works, the entire roof covering was changed, paying special attention to historically appropriate tin sheet size and sheet division. The tin covering replacement works were carried out by JSC “Būvuzņēmums restaurators”, which was selected as the result of an open public procurement process as the economically best offer with the total repair amount of 709,987.67 euros without value added tax (VAT).

Although the possible damage and corrosion of the building’s structures have been prevented, the further use of the pavilion requires significant investments, according to company representatives.

Baiba Beatrise Sleže, chairman of the board of SIA “Rīgas nami”, said that changing the roof covering would not mean the opening of another pavilion. Sleže points out that it would not be economically justified, as the pavilion areas currently open for trade are sufficient.

“This is the moment when we have to make conceptual decisions about what new functions we want to see in the free spaces of the market in the future, because we have to change with the latest trends in consumer behavior and good practices in the field of market development, so that Riga Central Market can use its full potential,” he emphasized Lock.

The chairman of the board pointed out that the markets in the world are changing and culture, science, sports are increasingly supplementing the usual trading functions.
