The opportunities for water tourism in the summer season in Jelgava are getting wider every year – this season Jelgava residents and city guests will have the opportunity to see the city by boat, as well as with water bikes, SUP boards, canoes and rowing boats, which will be offered at the Driksa pier, Jelgava Yacht Club and rowing base. Post Island.
This season, ten boats are preparing their offer for vacationers – «Relax», «Mika», «Moana», «Dezija», «Jerri», «Carpe Diem», «Mītava», a BBQ grill boat, as well as newcomers the pontoon boat «Bentley» and a small boat “Wave”. It is planned that with the onset of warmer weather, nine of them will be found at the pier of the Driksa River, but with last season’s novelty – a grill boat – this year too, the Jelgava Kayaking and Canoeing Sport Club “KC” will be able to leave the Post Island. Vessels have different capacity – 8, 12, 14, 15, 16, 20 or even 40 persons – and also technical equipment, which creates a unique offer. For some, it is an opportunity to use the grill during the trip, for some – to enjoy the views from the 2nd floor of the boat, and for others – equipment worthy of a pirate ship with a corresponding story.

This year, there will be at least six rental points, where various smaller watercraft will also be available – more than 40 catamarans, various types of SUP boards, rowing boats and canoes. Each with its own offer, these rental points will be located both at the pier of the Driksa River, at the Jelgava Yacht Club and at the Pasta Island rowing base. You can also spend your time actively on the water in various events – twice a month until September, family rowing competitions in tourist canoes take place in the waters of Lielupe, while regular recreational boat trips are organized during the season by the companies “Jelgavas laivas” and “Ozolaivas.lv”.
Compliance with navigation rules in the city’s rivers is controlled by a water police patrol. This year too, it plans to start the season already on May 1. It is important to remember: traffic accidents on the water or situations that may endanger shipping traffic in Jelgava must be reported by calling the unified emergency number 112, the residents’ support phone number 8787 or the Municipal Police on the phone number 8550.
