To earn a higher “status” on social networking sites, young people around the world are willing to invest considerable resources. Namely, when trying to shoot exciting videos, people tend to risk their own safety as well. Although there are no registered cases in Latvia where “influencers” committed suicide in pursuit of fame, risky behavior is gaining momentum in our country as well.
For example, during the weekend, two girls in Purvciem installed a camera on the roof and pretended to jump down from the 6th floor. A resident of a neighboring house managed to film some of the activities.
“There, that girl jumped from the roof onto the roof of the balcony in such a run. That’s where I really got goosebumps. I didn’t film that. Then they started playing ball on that roof, then the ball flew down. There were all kinds of things,” says the local resident.
The witness sent the recorded video to the mobile application of the Riga Municipality Police. Considering the seriousness of the call, the first law enforcement crew arrived within five minutes. One of the girls was met in the stairwell. She said that she tried to take pictures for “Instagram”. The police officer explained to the girl the consequences of this action and invited her to contact her friend to return to the scene.
The officers then told him to contact his parents: “Call, explain, or do you want us to do it? (Girl: I’ll tell you at home.) No, it won’t be like that. Or we will drive you home. (Girl: Please, you don’t have to do that.) Please don’t hang around on the roofs. (Girl: We won’t do that again.) I’m not a psychic, I can’t know if you’ll do it again or not.”

Soon, the parents of the girls came to the police bus. None of them were happy with what was happening. The girls received a thorough beating, but that’s all for now. The police did not start the administrative process this time.
