On April 2 at 18:00 in the Ventspils Parventas library and on April 3 at 18:00 in the Dubulti concert hall of Jurmala Music High School, an energetic, bright and exciting chamber music program “American Sketches” will be performed. Take care of it chamber ensemble HAIwhich brings together excellent chamber musicians – flautist, professor of Jāzepa Vītola Latvian Music Academy (JVLMA) Ilona Maypianist, JVLMA chamber ensemble and piano accompaniment department associate professor Herta Hansen and saxophonist, JVLMA, Latvian Academy of Culture and Latvian Academy of Arts joint professional doctoral student Aigars Raumanis. All three musicians have won the highest Latvian national award in music – the Grand Music Prize. And we will meet with all three artists on Tuesday’s “Urgent Conversation”.
Trio HAI has selected a variety of music by American composers especially for these concerts. The Trio for flute, saxophone and piano, created by Lowell Lieberman in 2022, has not yet been performed in Latvia, in which the listeners will discover the subtlety of the composer’s sense of rhythm and the richness of the harmonic language. American saxophonist Russell Peterson – a composer who fuses elements of European classical and popular music in his works, thus creating a unique and unforgettable sound – has also created wonderful music for such a composition. Eric Ewazen’s “Ballad, Pastoral and Dance” will be played in a new version.
Trio HAI concerts were implemented within the framework of the Jāzeps Vītolas Latvian Academy of Music Scientific and Creative Activities project competition. “Sketches of America” - an exciting journey through optimistic and virtuosic American music with flautist Ilona May, saxophonist Aigar Rauman and pianist Herta Hansen.
