Sports pedagogy academy will be added to RSU already this summer / Article

The order of the Cabinet of Ministers of December 2022 provided for LSPA to be reorganized by January 1, 2026.

The Ministry of Education and Science (MES) has indicated that significant risks have been identified for the Latvian Recovery and Resilience Mechanism grant applications for receiving funding due to the fact that the measures provided for in the reorganization plan are not implemented and the mutual coordination of documents between the governing bodies of higher education institutions is delayed.

“The previous management of the academy has created the risk of ineligible expenses in the European Union (EU) fund project “Reduce the fragmentation of study programs and strengthen the sharing of resources”, for which several warnings from the Central Finance and Contracts Agency have been received,” stated the Ministry of Education and Culture.

The Ministry of the Interior believes that the acceleration of the reorganization process can be considered an effective solution for acquiring European funding. Meanwhile, LSPA has stated that the complications in the specific project are not causally related to the reorganization and the change of its date.

LSPA will continue to exist as a separate structural unit of RSU, but RSU will be the successor of LSPA’s rights and obligations.

After the reorganization, LSPA is expected to continue with its academic and scientific autonomy and retain its name and symbolism to develop research excellence in the field of health and sport sciences, and therefore the field of national sports policy. On the other hand, RSU resources will provide higher quality educational studies and research, universities will be able to jointly use student services, information technology (IT) systems, project management, legal and other resources.

RSU will take over seven study programs after LSPA’s reorganization.
