Based on the increase in the cost of public transport services and in order for the state to ensure a high quality of service, as well as to equalize the existing tariff differences between different regions and routes of different importance, where the ticket price for the same distance traveled is different, the customer – Valsts SIA “Autotransporta directorate” – has made a decision to introduce a single fare tariff on public transport routes of regional importance, that is, county and intercity routes, from April 1.

Tariff changes provide that the ticket price is rounded up to 0.10 euros and the minimum fee is determined depending on the boarding/alighting stop:

The price of the baggage ticket is also being changed, which is calculated at 30% of the price of a one-way ticket (until now – 20%).

Passengers who use the services provided by the municipality SIA “Ventspils Reiss” on intercity routes should be aware that the ticket price may be different for different flights of the same route. So, for example

  • on the route “Ventspils – Liepāja” the price of a ticket from Ventspils to Liepāja will be 6.30 euros, while on the trip from Liepāja to Ventspils, the ticket will cost 6.50 euros;

  • on the route “Ventspils – Jelgava” a ticket from Ventspils to Jelgava will cost 9.80 euros, and from Jelgava to Ventspils – 9.70 euros;

  • on the route “Ventspils – Riga” the ticket price will be between 9.10 euros and 9.30 euros on various flights;

  • on the route “Ventspils – Talsi – Tukums – Riga” the ticket price will be 9.70 euros.

We have mentioned only a few examples, but it should be taken into account that there are routes in which the increase in the fare is higher, and there are also those in which there are no changes or the ticket price may even be slightly reduced.

Passengers should also know that the customer – Valsts SIA “Autotransporta Direkcija” promises that tickets purchased electronically, using mobile applications and the Internet, will become cheaper. Thus, it is intended to change the habits of passengers and encourage the timely purchase of tickets, reducing the number of passengers who tend to buy tickets at the last minute from the bus driver.

The regional public transport tariff system currently in force in Latvia has been operating since 2020, when the fare for all regional transport, regardless of distance, was increased by EUR 0.10. Over the past two years, the cost of public transport services has been affected by the increase in the price of energy resources, the increase in labor costs and other circumstances, so changes in the fare tariff are inevitable at the customer’s discretion.

In the case of short or medium-distance bus passenger transport, the changes in the new tariff system are relatively minor and are aimed at not putting pressure on passengers who use public transport frequently.

Since the tariff changes are very extensive, it is not possible to publish information about all the planned changes. We recommend searching for detailed information on ticket prices for a specific flight to a specific stop on Internet portals www.atd.lv, www.1188.lv or www.autoosta.lv.
