Yesterday afternoon, a pair of eagles occasionally left the nest for several minutes, leaving the egg alone. Mr. H actively feeds dry grass and reed tufts, which are used to line the base of the nest and cover the eggs.

The first egg this season was laid on March 23. Compared to the two previous years, this spring the first egg was laid much later. For example, last year the first egg was laid on March 8, and in 2022 – on March 15.

This year, the nest owner, Milda, and her new ringed partner, H 492, or Mr. H, had to build a new nest because the previous nest collapsed in last fall’s storm.

From February 19 to March 23, the two birds have built a nest from 917 branches of different sizes. The largest builder was Mr. H, who wrapped 739 branches in the nest, while Milda had 178 branches, according to the inventory made on the “Dabasdati.lv” forum. Even after laying the egg, Mr. H replenishes the nest with new branches and tufts of dry grass.

Both birds breed in shifts. They are disturbed by the crows living in the neighborhood, who followed the construction of the nest with interest and checked whether the sea eagles already had an egg in the nest.
