Tension between rap giants – Drake and Kendrick Lamar exchange insults

--

More about family relationships from the “opposite camp” point of view: Drake made clear hints in his song “Family Matters” that Lamar’s relationship with his fiancee, Whitney Alford, is rife with violence and mutual mistrust.

The tension between the two rap masters began around 2012, when Lamar’s critically acclaimed second studio album “Good Kid, MAAD City” was released. Drake was a guest artist on this album, but there were already signs of tension between the two.

It is not exactly clear where the source of the initial disagreements is to be found, but it can be assumed that the different styles and competitive spirit of the musicians could have contributed to more and more heated disputes.

Although the two rappers are the same age (Drake is 37 and Lamar is 36), Drake has achieved quantitatively more success in his career in the entertainment industry. His recognition was boosted by the fact that the young talent first established himself as an actor, playing basketball star Jimmy Brooks in the Canadian television teen drama Degrassi High School: The Next Generation.

Drake has achieved significant commercial success with his chart-topping hits, while Lamar has focused more on producing conceptually deep lyrics that delve into the complexities of the black experience, focusing on overarching themes such as family, love, religion and growing up.

Drake’s income from streaming his music on Spotify has earned him $52.5 million. The 2009 single “Best I Ever Had” went triple platinum on the Billboard music charts and sold over three million copies in the US alone.
