Noise rock group STABS’s debut album Collision and music video for the song Sphinx tracksuit / Diena have been released

The Soviet legacy is expensive cars and bad roads, abandoned buildings and ever new and bigger supermarkets, the grandiose trauma of the previous generations and the indifferent faces of the descendants illuminated by blue light, hatred at first sight in public transport, the most colorful swearing and the most blatantly expressed love.

Along with the album STABS along with the Music of the Year Awards Golden microphone in the category The best video In 2023 and 2024, the award-winning directors Tina Zariņa and Eliza Jordani are presented with a video for the song Sphinx in tracksuit. “The idea for the music video was based on a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale Thumb. The basic structure of the fairy tale is preserved in the video, but it is mixed with modern trends and as a result we have created a modern version of Thumbelina,” says director Tina.

“This is a story about an ordinary person who, in the clutches of today’s endless crises and low prosperity, cannot help but feel small – just like Thumbelina. Even though the slogan “together is strength” is heard on the right and on the left, it does not seem to reach listening ears, because the belief that everyone bears individual responsibility for everything that happens in their lives is too deeply rooted in Latvia. Through the image of Thumbelina, we tried to show that the phraseology “the maker of one’s own happiness” is misunderstood. STABS believes that it is the whole society that is the forge of your happiness, and to improve it, you need to get involved individually,” the group says.

STABS is a trio of best friends, consisting of drummer Aleksandrs Barons, bassist Uģis Jansons-Krastiņš and guitarist Roberts Šūmanis. Each of them is also actively engaged in their musical and other solo projects. Combining their skills and tastes in the STABS project, they create noisy music together, as the band believes it best represents the status quo.

Alexander Baron is a poet and musician, his second album is expected this year Waiting for snow as well as a debut poetry collection The Labyrinth of Solitude.

Uģis Jansons-Krastiņš or Ug Ug Ugg Ugg is a sound engineer and producer. In 2022, five of his solo albums in various genres were released, at the end of 2023 IGREK, which was created together with Aleksi Lurinus (ritunsiic).

Roberts Shumanis or Svete is a cassette label Sounds of pain and groups Velnezer founder as well as part of the rap union New Wavy.

The album was recorded by Arnold Anderson with the band STABS Hodila records in the studio in Valmiera, as well as Baron’s boudoir in the studio in Riga in the spring of 2023. Mixed and produced by Alexis Luriņš, mastered by Andis Ansons. The photo of the album was created by Māris Priedītis, designed by the group STABS. The publicity photo was taken by Simona Shumane.
