“Discoverable by Others” is a feature enabled by default on Journal”. It collects the number of devices that are near you, as well as any saved contacts that you have come within Bluetooth range of. However, this feature does not store any information about contacts or people on your phone , which is near you, and vice versa – does not reveal your information to anyone else.

In fact, it is similar to the “AirDrop” function, which allows nearby users to share information wirelessly. As with AirDrop, sharing must be “approved” by the recipient.

Basically, the goal is to make the “Journal” a representation of what you did today. If you’ve been close to a saved contact, you may have been with friends that day (“Journal” won’t know or share information about which contact you’ve been with, but will confirm that you’ve spent time with “one of your contacts “).

If there were a lot of other devices around you at one point, the app could indicate that you were out doing something that day instead of being home alone. Using this information, Journal can offer suggestions for you to write about your day.

“Apple” previously informed that “Journal” recommendations are designed to “help you remember and reflect on what you experienced”.

How to turn off the “Discoverable by Others” feature of “Journal”

To turn it off, go to “Settings” and then “Privacy & Security”. Click on “Journaling Suggestions” and turn off “Discoverable by Others”.
