The two-time Oscar winner will star in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, according to a press release. The film is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by author Helen Fielding.
It is expected that Hugh Grant (Hugh Grant), who played Daniel Cleaver in 2001’s Bridget Jones’s Diary and 2004’s Bridget Jones: The Limits of Sanity, will return for the fourth installment of the franchise to star alongside Zellweger again. Grant did not appear in the third installment of the franchise, 2016’s Bridget Jones’s Baby, although his character was part of that film’s plot.
The fourth installment of the franchise will also feature Emma Thompson, who appeared as Dr. Rawlings in Bridget Jones’s Baby, but will now star alongside franchise newcomers Chiwetel Ejiofor and White Lotus star Leo Woodall ( Leo Woodall).
Zellweger was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress in 2002 for her performance in Bridget Jones’s Diary, but did not receive the award that year. In 2004, she won the “Oscar” award for the performance of the best supporting actress in the film “Cold Mountain”, and in 2020 for playing the main role in the film “Judy”.
The first film introduced us to Jones, a confused news assistant who diligently keeps a diary of her tribulations and experiences in love, career and life in general.
According to the book’s official synopsis, Fielding’s novel Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy takes place 14 years after Jones left Mark Darcy, played by Academy Award winner Colin Firth in all the films to date (Colin Firth).
To Leslie director Michael Morris is attached to direct the new film, with Fielding serving as an executive producer. The project is financed by the Miramax film studio.
It is currently planned that the film “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy” will be released in theaters in the United States on February 14, 2025.
