The symbolism of myths in the exhibition “Consolation” by the Polish artist Laura Makabrescu

--

Laura Makabresku is a laureate of several important art photo contests. The artist’s works have been exhibited in Venice, USA, Canada, France, Belgium, Poland and elsewhere, as well as published in several international art magazines.

The artist’s exhibition can be appreciated for the first time in the Baltic States.

The author’s photographs are based on a painterly aesthetic message, in which, using surrealism and symbolism, detachment from the real world takes place, entering a timeless space.

Each photograph has its own puzzle and story behind it – as mysterious as the photograph itself. Laura’s works are filled with spirituality, biblical and apocryphal references, mythic symbolism and a peculiar mood. It should be noted that the term “apocrypha” refers to an ancient, anonymous composition related to biblical scenes, which the official church does not recognize and therefore does not use in its spiritual practice.

Photographs have no boundaries – they stimulate the imagination and continue to dwell in the minds of the viewers. Acting close to the direction of symbolism, Laura Makabrescu’s photographs create visual metaphors. Consolation as the eternal transcendent direction of the soul is the central theme of the artist’s work, as a manifesto.

The author herself says that she is inspired by silence, Orthodox icons and magical realism literature.
