“Ukraine needs further timely defense assistance – precisely the kind that can disrupt Russia’s revenge and attack plan this year,” Zelensky said.
The President also stated that no European nation that shares the values of the European Union (EU) and defends them should remain outside the unity of the EU.
Also, Zelensky emphasized that the Balkan countries and Moldova are also part of Europe, and he is sure that Georgia and Belarus will also celebrate Europe Day one day.
To show support for Ukraine, the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsol, also arrived in Kyiv on Thursday. She visited the parliament and the presidential palace and met with the highest Ukrainian officials.
At the central station of Kyiv, Metsol was welcomed by the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, with flowers in his hands. She then held a press conference with President Volodymyr Zelensky, but it had to be canceled due to an air defense alert.
Shortly afterwards, the two politicians were taken to safety in a bomb shelter there. After the end of the alarm – now indoors – Zelensky thanked Metsola for the enormous support of the European Union in protecting the people of Ukraine and presented her with the first class Order of Merit.
