The Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure reports that the pilot reported to Istanbul airport air traffic control that it was impossible for the plane to release the front landing gear.
The planes landed only on the second attempt and “struck” the runway with the nose.
Video footage posted on social networks shows the moment the plane crashes into the asphalt, sending sparks flying into the air.
No one was injured in the incident and the plane’s crew was safely evacuated, Turkish Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu said.
He said the runway where the plane landed was closed while the crashed plane was removed.
