China’s third aircraft carrier Fujian went on its first sea trials on Wednesday, May 1, the Global Times reports.

The aircraft carrier left Shanghai’s Jiangyan Shipyard at approximately 8:00 a.m. Sea trials are primarily focused on testing the reliability and stability of the ship’s power plants and electrical systems.

Previously, the media had repeatedly drawn attention to the fact that the ship is almost ready, and last year it was also reported that “Fujian” will be handed over to the Chinese Navy as early as 2025.

Fujian is an aircraft carrier and is approximately 315 m long and approximately 75 m wide.

The ship’s volume is 80 thousand tons, and the new aircraft carrier is larger than “Liaoning” and “Shandong” – two other largest Chinese ships of this class.

It is also the largest and most powerful warship ever built by an Asian nation, and one of the largest naval vessels in the world of all time.

It is also important that Fujian has become the first Chinese aircraft carrier to receive the CATOBAR (Catapult Assisted Take Off But Arrested Recovery) system, which allows the aircraft to take off using a catapult. The latest electromagnetic catapults will be used to launch the planes.
