She emphasized that “this process is not of a public nature”, and informed that the transfer of the suspects to Lithuania is organized by the Lithuanian Criminal Police Office.

The prosecutor’s office did not reveal whether Lithuania wants to extradite the detained Belarusian citizen, who, according to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, is suspected of ordering the attack on Volkov.

The two Polish citizens were detained in Warsaw on April 3, and the city’s district court decided to extradite them to Lithuania in the second half of April.

Court press representative Joanna Adamoviča previously told the AP news agency that both men will be in custody until May 13.

It has already been reported that on April 19, the President of Lithuania Gitans Nausėda was the first to publicly announce that two persons have been detained in Poland on suspicion of the attack on Volkov.

On the same day, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk wrote on the “X” platform that a citizen of Belarus, who could be the mastermind of the attack, had also been detained.

On the evening of March 12, there was an attack on Volkov, an ally of the deceased Russian oppositionist Alexei Navalny, in Vilnius.

The assailant broke Volkov’s car window, stunned him with tear gas and began beating him with a meat mallet. Volkov’s arm and leg were injured in the incident.

A pre-trial investigation has been launched into the incident. The State Security Department of Lithuania announced that the attack was an operation organized and carried out by Russia.

The head of the National Crisis Management Center, Vilmants Vitkauskas, said that the attack was a professional, well-planned operation, which can be called the first case of political terrorism in Lithuania.

Volkov lives in Lithuania after leaving Russia, where he was threatened with detention.
