Every vocation is a “diamond in the rough” that needs to be carefully polished and processed to give shape to all its facets – says Pope Francis, commenting on the prayer intention for May this year. This intention is dedicated to those called to the priesthood and consecrated life and related to their formation.

In the video message, the Holy Father says that a good priest, a good nun is first of all such a man, such a woman, who has been formed by the grace of the Lord. These are people who are aware of their limitations and are ready to live a life of prayer and devote themselves to preaching the Gospel.
The Pope reminds that their comprehensive preparation should start from the seminary and the novitiate, in close contact with others. It is very important. The formation does not end at a certain moment, but continues for years, throughout life, enriching the intellectual, human, emotional and spiritual spheres. It is also about preparing for community life, which is very useful, even if sometimes difficult, because living together and living in community are not the same thing.
At the end of the address, Francis invites us to pray for consecrated persons and seminarians to grow in their vocation, thanks to human, pastoral, spiritual and community life formation, and thus become true witnesses of the Good News.
