The police on Saturday detained almost 200 people at US universities, eliminating the camps of Palestinian supporters.

On the East Coast, in Boston, police have detained about 100 people after liquidating a protest camp at Northeastern University.

The liquidation of the camp began after the protesters turned to openly anti-Semitic slogans, including calls to “Kill the Jews!”, Northeastern University said in a statement.

On the other hand, 69 people who had set up an illegal camp on the campus were arrested at Arizona State University.

The protesters, most of whom were students, faculty or staff at Arizona State University, set up camp Friday and ignored repeated calls to disperse.

Meanwhile, police have detained 23 people at Indiana University.

The protesters are demanding a cease-fire in Israel’s war against the Palestinian terror group Hamas, and for their educational institutions to cut ties with Israel and companies that the protesters say are profiting from the war in the Gaza Strip.

University administrations have faced enormous challenges in trying to find a balance between free speech and accusations that these protests are actually manifestations of open anti-Semitism.

In recent days, the police have carried out extensive arrest operations, sometimes using tear gas and electric shock devices to disperse the demonstrators.
