Last week, Princess of Wales Kate Middleton published a very personal and emotional video message in which she revealed that she had cancer, writes the BBC.
After the video surfaced, viewers around the world questioned why her husband Prince William was not seen alongside Kate in the video. According to The Times, a royal source is said to have commented:
“He is in awe of her as a strong woman who shares a strong message with the nation. She doesn’t need anyone sitting next to her. Prince William is behind the scenes supporting her and his family.” Royal correspondent Danielle Stacey also notes that Kate has shown her inner strength in this way.
“We understand that the Princess of Wales wrote every word of her speech herself and felt it necessary to announce it to the public herself,” she added.
“People who work closely with the princess often talk about her inner strength, and I think her video message is a great example of that. I have no doubt that the prince praises his wife’s courage and choice to express the news as she wishes.”
In her speech, Kate also mentions “everyone who is alive and has cancer,” which may indicate how important it is for her to share this message, to connect with others who have faced this diagnosis. Her message ends with words of sympathy: “I urge anyone who is dealing with this disease, no matter what form it takes, to not lose faith and hope. You are not alone.”
