A 26-year-old man has been arrested for issuing death threats to the director on the Internet, who will have to appear in court in April.

The student, in turn, filed a complaint against the principal, accusing him of mistreating her during the incident, but her complaint was rejected.

France, where debates about secularism and religion often arise, is home to Europe’s largest Muslim community. The country already banned students from wearing symbols and clothing that demonstrate religious affiliation, such as headscarves, turbans and kippahs, 20 years ago.

Many French politicians expressed their dismay at the incident. Some suggest that this is a disgrace and indicates a collective failure of the country and the defeat of the country in front of the Muslim community. Several politicians have expressed their support for the director and the Ministry of Education announced that they will never leave teachers alone in the face of threats.
