Last September, e-commerce giant Amazon announced plans to invest $4 billion in artificial intelligence (AI) startup Anthropic. This company is best known for its AI bot ‘Claude’, giving it serious competition from Google and OpenAI. Amazon had invested $1.25 billion in the company so far, but just announced that it has also invested the remaining $2.75 billion, fulfilling its commitment.

In a March 27 report, Amazon announced that it now holds a minority stake in the company after investing an additional $2.75 billion. As part of the deal, both parties agreed that Amazon would receive a portion of Anthropic’s stock. A separate agreement also states that Anthropic will continue to use Amazon Web Services (AWS) for its bulk computing needs. For example, the company will use AWS’ “Trainium” and “Inferentia” chips to build, train and run its future AI models.

Along with the announcement of the investment in “Anthropic”, “Amazon” has launched an AI assistant for companies, Amazon Q, which is capable of chatting, solving problems, creating content and other useful functions for business.

As for Anthropic, it was founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees. In early March, Anthropic launched the most powerful version of its AI robot, Claude 3, which can also analyze images.
