The first speed and parking restrictions for electric scooters are planned to be introduced in Riga from May.

Until then, there will be enough time for the shared scooter companies to prepare for the restrictions and also for the municipality to mark the places where it will be allowed to park the scooters.

The first zone, which is planned to be introduced from May, will be in Old Riga. It will have a speed limit of 20 kilometers per hour. Micromobility tools also cannot be left anywhere, but placed only in specially marked places.

From June, this area is planned to be extended to Elizabetes iela and, if necessary, even further over time.

The binding rules for the use of shared vehicles have been developed with the aim of increasing the safety of all road users.

The new regulations will provide that the municipality will publish the speed limit zones and parking prohibition zones for shared vehicles in the “Traffic and Mobility” section of the “Geo Rīga” website of the municipality’s data publication portal.

In the speed limit zone, the speed of the shared vehicle shall not exceed 20 kilometers per hour.

For the provision of shared vehicle services, only shared vehicles equipped with a system that regulates speed and parking will be allowed, adapting them to the shared vehicle speed limit zones and no parking zones indicated on the map.
