Latvian hockey national team player Rodrigo Ābols gave his comments in a conversation with journalists after the quarter-final of the world championship against Sweden.

It has already been announced that the Latvian hockey team beat Sweden 3:1 in the quarter-final game of the world championship tonight, entering the semi-finals of the tournament for the first time in history. Latvia in the semifinals on Saturday in Tampere at will meet Canada at 14:20, but at USA will play Germany at 18:20.

“Immense pride and maybe I haven’t fully realized what just happened,” Abols admitted. “In one word – team! I don’t think I’ve ever played in a team like that. No ego. Everyone puts the team before themselves. How we block pucks, how we fight for each other! We don’t hold grudges against each other, but push forward and it also gives results.”

“We won with character and dedication. Of course, they are more skilled, they have a bigger bank account for two players than we have as a whole team, but the difference is in the name of the team. We proved that today. We win as a team and we lose as a team. We don’t win just because my shift throws or someone else. We have four shifts that are ready to change the result.”
