The president of the Slovak Hockey Federation and the general manager of the national team, Miroslav Šatan, announced that the 24-year-old defenseman Fehérvári, who recently finished his season with the NHL club Washington “Capitals”, will play in the world championship this year.
In the first round of the Eastern Conference of the Stanley Cup, the “Capitals” represented by Fehervári lost 0-4 to the New York “Rangers” team, who won the regular season championship of the NHL, winning the President’s trophy.
Fehérvári scored three goals and made 13 assists in 66 matches in the NHL regular season this season, while in four “play-off” matches he had two accurate shots and one assist.
In total, in his career, Fehérvári played four NHL seasons, participated in 218 matches in the regular season, scored 17 goals and completed 33 assists, while in the “play-off” tournament he had 12 matches and three points (2+1).
Fehérvári has participated in three world championships so far, played in 19 games, scored one goal and scored three assists.
On the other hand, this spring the Slovakian national team will not be helped by the defenseman of the NHL club Tampa Bay “Lightning” Eric Cernak, whose season ended after losing in the first round of the Stanley Cup against Uvja Balinski’s Florida “Panthers”.
26-year-old Cernak scored two goals and 11 assists in 69 games in the NHL regular season this season. He has one assist in five “play-off” matches.
It has already been announced that five Slovak ice hockey players who played in the NHL this season – Juraj Slafkovskis (Montreal “Canadiens”), Tomas Tatars (Colorado “Avalanche”/Seattle “Kraken”), Šimon Nemec (New Jersey “Devils”) confirmed their participation in this year’s world championship. ), Martins Pospišils (Calgary “Flames”), Pavols Regenda (Anaheim “Ducks”, NHL/San Diego “Gulls”, AHL).
The Slovak national team will be the opponent of the Latvian national team in subgroup B in Ostrava, where the USA, Germany, Sweden, France, Kazakhstan and Poland will also play.
The duel between the teams of Latvia and Slovakia is scheduled for May 19. It will be the penultimate game of the group tournament for us.
