This year, more than 300 garbage collection and more than one and a half hundred beautification cleanups in almost 400 places in Latvia have been applied for the Great Cleanup. The offer of cleaning places is quite wide and diverse, and often someone chooses to clean a place they have not seen before, thus getting to know Latvia better.

Vita Jaunzeme, head of the big cleanup, is happy that Ogre has returned to the cleanup crew after a five-year break. “Of course, the residents of Ogre cleaned, but the management of the municipality was of the opinion that such cleaning was unnecessary and treated it negatively. However, the situation has changed, and Ogre is back! In addition, the municipality has come up with a new and relevant initiative – basement cleaning, inviting every citizen, institution, company and organization to assess the suitability of the basements in their possession for setting up a shelter and to participate in the practical work of adjusting the basements on the day of the Great Cleanup, freeing them from excess, as well as cleaning the basements,” says Jaunzeme.

On the website of the Great Cleanup, you can find infographics and video tutorials on how to properly destroy Latvians, so as not to get injured and for the fight to be effective.
This year, Riga has also followed the already mentioned example of Ogre, basement cleaning will take place in the capital, and it has been decided that basements will also be the center of attention in other parts of Latvia.
