In the first quarter of this year, 7,813 road traffic accidents were reported to insurers, 74% of which were recorded with coordinated notifications, the representatives of the Latvian Transport Insurers Bureau (LTAB) informed the LETA agency.

Of all the accidents registered with the agreed notifications, 14% were filled out electronically in the LTAB OCTA mobile app.

The data collected by the LTAB shows that more than half of the drivers do not carry the agreed notification form in their vehicles and have not downloaded the LTAB OCTA mobile app, where the agreed notification can be completed electronically.

In order to encourage drivers to use the agreed notices more after a traffic accident and to explain their correct filling, LTAB implemented an information campaign in March and April, during which various communication activities were implemented to inform more about the advantages of the agreed notice, as well as expanding the availability of printed notices, as well as improving electronic coordinated statement.

In order to make it easier and more understandable to fill in the agreed statement in the LTAB OCTA mobile app, LTAB has made several functional improvements, informs Jānis Abāšins, chairman of the LTAB board. Also, a total of 53,000 printed protocols of the agreed statement have been delivered to the State Police and several gas station networks.

LTAB developed and implemented the mobile coordinated notification feature in the LTAB OCTA app in 2019. The function allows you to fill out the agreed notice form electronically on any smart device, and thanks to the user authorization options, such electronically filled agreed notice is an equivalent document to its printed version.

LTAB ensures the operation of the mandatory civil liability insurance (OCTA) system in the country. OCTA was introduced in Latvia in 1997 to ensure the protection of the interests of third parties injured in road traffic accidents. Initially, the office operated under the Ministry of Finance, but since 2004 it has been an independent institution.
