The Golf is no longer the most produced car model in Germany, but this title still belongs to Volkswagen.
The Volkswagen Golf celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, but the joy of the long and successful years is slightly spoiled by its closest relative – the Tiguan crossover, which deprived the Golf of the honor of the most produced car in Germany.
With 225,000 units in 2023, the SUV was about 10,000 times more than the compact best-seller Golf, which was the leader back in 2016 with nearly 800,000 units, according to estimates from consultancy Inovev.
In recent years, the Golf’s popularity has fallen, unable to withstand competition with SUV models, including from the middle (T-Roc, T-Cross, ID.3).
According to Inovev’s calculations, the Tesla Model Y ranks third with 195,000 units, while the BMW 3 Series ranks fourth with 180,000 units produced.
