In February 2024, compared to February 2023, the volume of industrial production decreased by 0.3% in comparable prices according to calendar-adjusted data, according to the data of the Central Statistics Office (CSB). Production volume in the manufacturing industry decreased by 5.0%, while in electricity and gas supply – an increase of 12.7% and in mining and quarrying – by 29.4%.

The largest decrease in the volume of production was in the production of furniture – by 16.6%, in the production of equipment, mechanisms and work machines – by 14.0%, in the production of computers, electronic and optical equipment – by 13.8%, in the production of beverages – by 13.4% and in clothing production – by 8.4%. The decline was in two of the three largest manufacturing industries by proportion: in the production of finished metal products, excluding machinery and equipment, and in the production of food products – by 10.3% and 2.0%, respectively.

The increase in the volume of industrial production was in the production of chemicals and chemical products – by 20.0%, in printing and reproduction of records – by 18.4%, in the production of cars, trailers and semi-trailers – by 12.6% and in the installation and repair of equipment and devices – by 12.2%. The increase was also in the largest manufacturing sector in terms of proportion: in the production of wood and wood products – by 0.2%.

In February, compared to January, according to seasonally adjusted data, the volume of industrial production increased by 2.8% at comparable prices. The increase in the production volume was in the processing industry – by 1.2%, in electricity and gas supply – by 11.1%, as well as in mining and quarrying – by 9.9%.

According to CSB, in February of this year, compared to February of last year, the turnover of the manufacturing industry, according to calendar-adjusted data, decreased by 6.0% in actual prices. Turnover in the domestic market decreased by 7.4% and in exports – by 5.3% (including the eurozone – by 1.1%, and outside the eurozone – by 8.7%).

In February, compared to January, the turnover of the manufacturing industry according to seasonally adjusted data decreased by 1.8%. Turnover in the local market decreased by 1.2%, and in exports – by 2.2% (including in the eurozone – by 3.3%, and outside the eurozone – by 1.2%).
