In Riga, an 82-year-old lady hits her guest with a frying pan in the heat of the conflict

On the evening of December 2022, a 65-year-old man went to visit an 82-year-old woman in Torņakalnė, taking alcohol along with salted bread. The peaceful sit-in was marred by an unexpected conflict. The gentleman, under the influence of alcohol, probably annoyed the landlady and she raised her hand to the guest.

“The investigation established that on December 17, 2022, the man had come to visit the woman and consumed alcoholic beverages. At some point, due to circumstances not clarified for the pre-trial investigation, the woman inflicted severe bodily harm on the man by hitting him with a blunt object, most likely a frying pan, at least 15 times in the head area.”

When an ambulance was called, the medics immediately noticed the signs of violence on the man’s head and passed this information on to the State Police.

Unfortunately, the victim of the severe injuries died two days later. The murderer was arrested, but the court, respecting the respectable age of the lady and the fact that, most likely, she is not a threat to other members of society, decided on a gentle security measure until the trial of the case.

“For such a crime, the law provides for deprivation of liberty for a period of three to 15 years, with or without confiscation of property, and with or without probation supervision for a period of up to three years. The suspect was also placed on bail, which is not related to deprivation of liberty.”
