The son is also crying.
“After the trip to Bali, I promised myself that I would never leave him for such a long time. I feel like we’re such s**t parents. I don’t know how it happened,” she bursts into tears.
Nauris explains that when checking in, it was stated that the passport should be valid for at least 3 months, but when he arrived at the airport, he was told that it should be valid for 6 months. They were offered to change their tickets, but they would have to pay extra for that, so they chose to travel without their son.

Portal LA.LV contacted airBaltic customer support center, which stated that they do not provide passengers with information about what the validity period of the passport should be, each person should find out for himself when choosing the country to go to. Information can be obtained, for example, on the website of the specific country’s embassy.
They haven’t heard anything about the situation yet, and they need the flight reservation number to be able to provide more details.
On the website of the Directorate of Citizenship and Migration Affairs, it is stated that an identity document is issued for children under the age of 5:
- for two years;
- or for the duration of the trip, if it is longer than two years, but not longer than five years.
