Last week, on April 23, law enforcement officers detained a criminal group organized by four persons, which was engaged in the unauthorized sale of amphetamine in the territory of Riga.

On April 23, officers of the State Police, in cooperation with the Special Tasks Battalion of the State Police, detained four persons – men born in 1968 and 1976, a woman born in 1981 and a man born in 1979, who were already in a place of deprivation of liberty as part of another criminal trial and at procedural actions performed by him.

According to the information at the disposal of the State Police, the arrested persons were involved in the sale of narcotic, psychotropic substances, using a hidden system, communicating in the communication app Telegram. The organizer was in one of the places of deprivation of liberty in Latvia and coordinated the activities of the other members of the criminal group, whose task was to store, package and hide narcotics, as well as control the financial flow.

In total, nine searches were conducted at the addresses and cars belonging to the arrested persons, as a result of which approximately 1.5 kilograms of amphetamine, various items for packaging amphetamine (electronic scales, polyethylene bags, already packaged amphetamine) and one “Volkswagen” brand car were confiscated.

Last week, on April 24 and April 25, three persons were identified as suspects. The man born in 1968 was placed in custody. The man born in 1976 and the woman born in 1981 were given a non-custodial measure. The alleged organizer continues to serve a prison sentence as part of another criminal trial, and in the event that his guilt is proven in accordance with the procedure established by law, the person will be prosecuted as part of this criminal trial.

In connection with the incident, criminal proceedings were initiated according to the third part of Article 253/1 of the Criminal Law, namely for the unauthorized manufacture, purchase, storage, transportation and transfer of narcotic and psychotropic substances for the purpose of sale and unauthorized sale if it was done by an organized group or if it was done with narcotics or psychotropic substances in large quantities. Committing such a crime is punishable by deprivation of liberty for a period of five to fifteen years, with or without confiscation of property, and probation supervision for a period of up to three years.

The State Police reminds that no person is considered guilty until his guilt in committing a criminal offense is proven in accordance with the procedures prescribed by law.
