In the city of Riga, since April 17, the installation of new sales points built on the principles of modules has started. The author of the project is the young and talented architect Toms Kampars, educated at the Riga Technical University and in Vienna, with work experience in various European offices.

Latvian viewers have gotten to know him as the author of several expositions of the Art Center “Zuzeum” and co-author of the Latvian exposition at the Venice Architecture Biennale. However, the architect also has such exotic projects as the Guabuliga market in Ghana.

In our conversation, the author comments on how he feels – more of a “child of nature” or an urbanist, and what it means to create universal type projects – in this case, shopping centers. Should small objects of the city’s infrastructure, which used to be called “small forms of architecture” (trade stands, kiosks, public transport stops, etc.), be built as a single system with an indication of Riga’s identity?
