In the TV24 program “On the Line”, when re-emigration issues were discussed, a viewer expressed his opinion: “My friends and relatives have been living abroad for ten and twenty years and are not interested in returning. Working in a factory in the most ordinary job, you can afford to go on trips every year and it’s even cheaper than tickets to Latvia to visit!”

After hearing the story of this viewer’s experience, the re-emigration coordinator of the Riga Planning Region, Daina Šulca, stated that the re-emigration coordinators “do not invite anyone to go back” to Latvia. “Remigration coordinators do not persuade anyone, they do not convince anyone. If a person lives abroad and has a desire to return to Latvia, re-emigration coordinators help him with information, consultation, sometimes even arranging job interviews at specific workplaces,” explained Šulta.
In addition, Šulta asked a question on the air of TV24, whether a resident of Latvia, when leaving for Germany, England and Ireland, was met by a person from this country who told them where to go to get a job, find housing, where to place a child in kindergarten, as well as what documents must be prepared and submitted to which institutions? “Coordinator of re-emigration [Latvijā] helps to return, but one must want to return! And one thing I’ve noticed in my work is that people have a very strong desire to come back. Very big! And the desire to return to Latvia is not enough, there must be some reason why he may not like abroad a bit anymore, maybe something is not going as it should,” said Šulta, the re-emigration coordinator of the Riga Planning Region.
Schultz also confirmed that she once lived in Denmark, but later returned to her homeland. “I was forced to return to Latvia by the feeling that I can live most fully in my own land. In fact, when I left for Denmark, I already had the feeling that I would definitely return to Latvia, because I also wanted to work in my profession, my son’s family was in Latvia. It wasn’t some special push for me that I needed to come back now. I have the inner feeling that I am in my place, in my country,” Schultz admitted in the TV24 program “On the Line”, discussing re-emigration issues.
