Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry has confirmed that two Ukrainian citizens who were stabbed in Germany on Saturday were Ukrainian soldiers who were in the country for a rehabilitation course.

A Russian citizen has been detained on suspicion of murder.

The Bavarian police announced that two Ukrainians were found with stab wounds in the shopping center in Murnav near Staffelsee on Saturday.

A 36-year-old man died of his injuries at the scene, while a 23-year-old man died on Saturday evening at a nearby hospital.

The soldiers lived in Garmisch-Partenkirchen district.

A 57-year-old Russian citizen has been detained on suspicion of murder.

According to local media, the authorities have not yet determined the motives of the murder. It is also not known if the murdered were known to the suspect.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has published a statement on its website, which states that “the killed citizens were soldiers undergoing medical rehabilitation in Germany.”

“Ukrainian consuls are clarifying information about the subunits in which the killed served and establishing contacts with relatives,” the ministry says.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, has instructed this case to be specially monitored, the statement said.
