While “Jaunā Vienotība” is trying to cover up the information provided by the party’s former head of office, Normunds Orleans, about illegal payments in cash, non-accounting of property or monetary donations and funding from unknown sources, meanwhile, the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB) confirms: yes, the information corresponds to the truth, and the party was already punished last year.

As LTV’s “de facto” program reported on April 7, KNAB has recently published an overview of the reports and declarations submitted by the 2022 parties. So, they refer to the Saeima election year, which KNAB checked in 2023, in order to publish the summary this spring, when all the paperwork is completed.

KNAB has established that during the 2022 Saeima election campaign, “Jaunās Vienotības” will have driven around the regions, using fuel paid for in cash by unknown persons. KNAB documents state that the party rented vehicles from SIA “Rent Point” and SIA “Interbus” in order to drive to voters in Riga and Zemgale electoral districts: “Accounting records and documents did not indicate information about fuel consumption (neither EKA checks nor invoices – waybills).”

For this, “Jaunā Vienotība” was fined 250 euros, with the possibility of starting the recovery of the part of the campaign funding illegally received from the state budget. It is not known how big the amounts were in reality and who actually paid for the fuel.

Signe Jantone, then the campaign coordinator in the Zemgale region, who has now been promoted to the general secretary of the “New Unity”, tries to blame the whistleblower Normund Orleanas himself, who was also allegedly responsible for the campaign. However, the correspondence preserved on the phone from October 3, 2022 shows: Signe Jantone herself wrote – “Hello! Then give me the fuel receipts that Christian gave you.” Three checks, each worth about 75 euros, paid in cash. Who this “Kristian” is can no longer be ascertained, nor is it known whether this is the person’s real name at all.

This correspondence overturns the current attempts of S. Yanton to shift the blame to N. Orleans. The version of S. Yantones that the fuel was allegedly poured by the candidates of Zemgale region themselves, is not confirmed by the former mayor of Jēkabpils, Leonids Salcevičs, who was one of these candidates. N. Orleans, on the other hand, is direct: “Signe lies!”

The penalty imposed by KNAB for violations of the 2022 campaign refutes the main line of defense of “Vienotības”, which is something like this: “If once our expelled old comrade Normunds Orleāns encountered corruption and illegal financing from the “black box”, then why does he not turn to the competent authorities, but both with the public and the media?”

The punishment imposed by the KNAB completely overturns such statements: before informing the general public, N. Orleāns contacted the authorities already last year, when he found the signs of “black money”, and the KNAB really reacted to it, checking and punishing the party for exactly what the party is trying to do in various ways. in ways to deny.
