74-year-old Anna Myers from Ohio, USA, has never been in trouble with the law before. However, in order to pay the debt, she resorted to a desperate step – robbing a bank.
A pensioner in a mask came to the bank and put a firearm to the bank employee’s face, demanding to return the money.
Police arrested the woman at her home. A search of the car turned up a gun believed to have been used in the robbery, as well as clothes and a fake number plate.
The pensioner has been charged with aggravated robbery with a firearm.
She managed to steal only 500 US dollars.
As it turned out later, the pensioner herself had become a victim of Internet scammers. She had transferred large sums of money borrowed from relatives to an unknown person. The inability to repay debts prompted the woman to take this desperate step.
“Some see her as a victim, but Anna put the lives and health of the people inside the bank at risk by robbing them at gunpoint,” said police sergeant Brandon McCroskey.
He said that the day before the robbery, the woman had discussed the possibility of such a crime with her relatives, but they did not take the old man’s words seriously.
Until the first court hearing, the accused will be held in custody with the possibility of being released on $100,000 bail. If found guilty, the woman faces up to 15 years in prison.
