The mixed choirs of Jelgava students have high-quality results in the Zemgale competition

On Thursday afternoon, the second round of the competition of the mixed choirs of schools of the Zemgale region and the mixed choirs of professional educational institutions and colleges took place at the 4th secondary school of Jelgava. The Choir of Jelgava Spīdola State Gymnasium and the mixed choir of Jelgava 4th Secondary School “Rotā” won the highest degree diploma in the show, while the mixed choir of Jelgava State Gymnasium “Skali” received the first degree diploma.

The examination-competition of the choral repertoire of educational institutions of the Zemgale region was evaluated by the commission established by the State Educational Content Center: Edgars Vītols, head of the department of music pedagogy of Jāzepa Vītola Latvian Academy of Music and artistic director of the mixed choir of Riga State 2nd Gymnasium, assistant professor of Jāzepa Vītola Latvian Academy of Music and Riga Dome Choir School boys’ choir conductor Mārtiņš Klišāns, Jāzeps Vītolas Latvian Academy of Music associate professor and choir conductor Arvīds Platpers and senior expert and project manager of the State Education Content Center Antra Strikaite.

The mixed choir of Jelgava 4th secondary school “Rotā”, led by conductors Līga Celma-Kursiete, Krista Delvere and Ingus Leylanda, received 47.17 points out of 50, while the mixed choir of Jelgava Spīdola State Gymnasium, led by conductors Agija Pizikas and Alvins Ruža, received 45. 11 points, obtaining diplomas of the highest degree, on the other hand, the mixed choir of the Jelgava State Gymnasium “Skali”, led by conductor Arta Jurgenovska, received 42.89 points, which culminated in a diploma of the first degree.

At the end of the competition, the choirs united in a joint song, performing Jāzeps Vītola’s “Gaismas pils”.

Choir tests-competitions will continue in the next academic year as well, which will end with the XIII Latvian School Youth Song and Dance Festival in 2025.
