The State Police (VP) has arrested several persons for the distribution of counterfeit money in Gulbene region, Zane Vaskane, senior specialist of the Public Relations Department of the VP, informed LETA agency.
This month, the State Police in North Vidzeme found several cases where a man tried to pay for a purchase in a store using a fake 50 euro banknote.
Nine criminal proceedings have been initiated for these cases under the first part of Article 192 of the Criminal Law. Such a criminal offense is punishable by deprivation of liberty for a period of three to ten years, with or without confiscation of property.
During the investigation, the State Police identified several involved persons, two of whom were detained.
In the course of the investigation, two persons were recognized as suspects, while two persons were assigned the status of a person against whom criminal proceedings have been initiated.
Suspects are subject to non-custodial security measures. Persons born in 1964, 1986, 1995 and 1996 have previously come under the police’s attention for various offenses.
