Until May 1, any photo friend or enthusiast who has reached the age of 18 can submit their work to the Danish Architecture Center’s popular “Capture Your City” photography competition, with the theme “New Beauty”. The authors of the most artistically valuable works will receive both valuable prizes and international recognition, as the photos will be included in the annual photography exhibition of the Danish Architecture Center. The Riga Municipality will also award its sympathy prizes – a gift card for a visit to the Riga Zoo and a snapshot camera, by choosing three pictures that show the capital city.

The main rule of the competition – the photo must be taken in Riga, Milan, Turin, Amsterdam, Ljubljana or one of the Danish cities, and it must highlight the unique characteristics and challenges of these cities, or depict the author’s individual interpretation of the “new beauty” of the urban environment.

By May 1 (including), the photo must be published on the Instagram platform with the hashtag CaptureYourCity2024 and the Instagram account of the Danish Architecture Center @danisharchitecturecenter must be tagged. Also, photos can be submitted by uploading them to the competition’s official website https://dac.dk/en/exhibitions/capture-your-city-new-beauty/. There is no limit to the number of photos you can submit, and participation in the contest is free.

The winners of the first three places will receive valuable prizes, and the photos will be included in this year’s international photography exhibition of the Danish Architecture Center, which will be on view in Copenhagen from June 6 to October 1 and will also visit other European cities during the summer months. Photographs that do not receive the highest rating may end up among the works that the jury will select for the exhibition. The best works can be viewed on the competition website dac.dk throughout the summer. The laureates will be announced and honored at the opening of the photo exhibition on June 6, and the live broadcast of the event will be available remotely.

In order to submit your work for this assessment, you must additionally add the hashtag NewBeautyRIGA on the Instagram platform, while if the image is uploaded to the competition’s official website, you must indicate that it was taken in Riga. The municipality will award a gift card for a visit to the Riga Zoo and a snapshot camera to the authors of the three most recognized images of Riga.
